Apu was enthusiastic about acting since her childhood, and she started training of dance from the "Shilpakala Academy." She was inspired by her parents to make her career in the Entertainment industry. She made her acting debut in 2006 from the film Kal Sokale. Her notable role in Koti Takar Kabin was well accepted and encouraged her to set a strong position in Dhallywood film industry.
She had a superhit pair with the co-star Shakib Khan, and this duo pair became the most famous pair in the Dhallywood industry. In 2013, she appeared in the remake of Devdas. Her first commercial hit film was My Name Is Khan released in the same following year. At that time, she was one of the top leading actresses of Dhallywood, and she completely established herself in the industry.
She married to her co-star in the films Shakib Khan in 2008. After her marriage, she converted her religion to Islam, and she changed her name to Apu Islam Khan. On Sep 2016, this couple was blessed by a baby boy named Abraham Khan Joy. She had made kept secret her marriage until Apr 2017.
