Arun Jaitley, the minister of Finance and Corporate Affairs, was born on 28th December 1952 at New Delhi, India. He is a Lawyer, Writer & Author turned Politician and is one of the most influential members of Bharatiya Janta Party.

Arun Jaitley Complete Bio & Career

Arun Jaitley was a politician and advocate from India. He had served as the Minister of Corporate Affairs and Finance Minister for Government of India in Narendra Modi's cabinet fro n 2014 to 2019.

He attended St. Xavier’s School in New Delhi. He studied at Shri Ram College of Commerce and graduated with an honours degree in commerce, Bachelor of Commerce degree. From University of Delhi, he obtained his LLB degree. He was a student leader for AkhilaBharatiyaVidyarthiParishad in the University Campus and he went on to become the President of Student Union of University of Delhi in 1974. He was under preventive detention during the Internal Emergency in 1975. ArunJaitley actively took part in the movement against corruption launched by Jayaprakash Narayan and Raj Narain in 1973. He became the Convenor of the National Committee for Students and Youth Organization. He was also very active in the civil rights movement. After emergency, he joined the Jan Sangh party. ArunJaitley was appointed as the President of Delhi ABVP wing and All India secretary of ABVP. Very soon after joining the party, he became the President of Youth Wing of BJP.

He had been an advocate in the Supreme Court of India and several other High Courts in India. He was designated as a Senior Advocate by Delhi High Court in 1990. He was the Additional Solicitor General in 1989 by Government of India and did the record and paperwork involved in the investigations of Bofors Scandal. He had advocated for several major political leaders including SharadYadav, MadhavraoScindia, and L.K Advani. He presented a study paper in front of Indo-Britosh Legal Forum regarding corruption and crime in India. He also represented Government of India at the United Nations General Assembly in June 1998.

Since 1991, ArunJaitley was a member of National Executive of BharatiyaJanata Party. He became the spokesperson for the party in 1999. After the NDA Government came to power after 1999 General Elections, he was appointed as the Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting and Minister of State for Disinvestment. He also became the Minister of Law, Justice, and Company Affairs in July 2000. He also got an elevation as a Cabinet Minister in November 2000. He was the General Secretary of the party and national spokesman from July 2002 to January 2003. After NDA’s defeat in 2004 General elections, he returned to the position and also his legal career. He became the Opposition Leader in the RajyaSabha in June 2009. He was a RajyaSabha member from Gujarat currently. He was one of the important leaders and strategy planners of BJP in 2014 General Elections. After NDA Government came to power in 2014, he had been the Minister of Finance and Minister of Defence. He was also a member of Board of Governors at Asian Development Bank. He played pivotal roles in demonetization and implementation of GST in India. He decided not to contest in the 2019 general elections and will continue to serve as a Rjya Sabha Member.

He was interested in cricket and had served in the Delhi Cricket Association (DDCA) and Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
