Balasaheb Keshav Thackeray, Indian Journalist, Activist, Cartoonist, Writer, and Seasoned Politician, was the founder of very popular party Shiv Sena(Army of Shiva) in Maharashtra, which was given in the name after 17th Century famous local Marathi king. He belonged to Marathi Chandraseniya Kayastha Prabha (CKP) community. He began his career in the early 1950s, being a Cartoonist for the Free Press Journal in Mumbai, His cartoons were highly appraised and appeared in International Newspapers as well. Later in the 1960s, he actively participated in Politics and focused more on developing a strong regional following through his work for Weekly Marathi-language journal “Marmik”.
 
Despite not holding any strong position in politics or run for elective office, he was considered as the most powerful personality of Maharashtra. His devout followers often referred to him as the “Godfather of Maharashtra”. Some people called Donal Trump as the Videshi version of this Mumbai’s Famous Tiger. He was also referred to as the “Hindu HridaySamrat” by his followers. He came into controversy for praising Nazi leader Adolf Hitler, but later he changed his sentence.
 
Bal Thackeray was also the founder of Marathi regional Newspaper Saamana. He was banned from Politics for six years on the recommendation of the Election Commission, being involved in seeking votes in the name of religion. His Political Party, Shiv Sena was not just a party but was an army of Shivaji, whose motto was to work for the rights of Marathi people. He said local native people should be given preference in private and public-sector jobs as they faced competition from South India, Marwaris, and Gujarati people.
