Bhaichung Bhutia aka Baichung Bhutia was born on 15-12-1976 in Tinkitam, South Sikkim in the state of Sikkim, India. He is a former Indian Football Player & Activisit.

Bhaichung Bhutia Complete Bio & Career

Baichung is arguably one of the most famous Indian footballers of recent times.  He was born and raised in remote village of Sikkim. He won SAI scholarship at a very young age and attended the famous Tashi Namgyal Academy, Gangtok. He then played for various local clubs of Sikkim. He rose to prominence after his performance in Subroto Cup, 1992. He got noticed from there and was then signed by East Bengal Club in the year 1993. This was the beginning of what was a wonderful career. A couple of years later, he moved to JCT Mills, Phagwara and in his very first season with them, he helped his side to win the India National Football League in 1995. He was the top scorer of the tournament. He was named as ”Indian Player of the Year” in the year 1996. 
 
He went to England in 1999 after he was inked by Bury F.C. in 1999. He returned to India in 2002and played for Mohun Bagan for a year. He was signed by a Malaysian football club named Perak FC in 2003. In an outstanding career that he has had, he won various accolades. He is to date the youngest goal scorer for India. He was voted as the ”Asian Player of the month” twice. He also was the top scorer in the first ever Asian Club Championship in the year 2003 which was held in Indonesia. For his achievements, he has been felicitated with the Sikkim State Award, Arjuna Award, Padma Shri, and Banga Bhushan Award among others. He retired from international Football in 2011. He, however, kept playing club football till 2015. After that, he has served as the manager of Sikkim state football team since 2018. 
 
Post retirement, he joined politics by joining TMC. He unsuccessfully contested in the 2014 general elections from Darjeeling constituency. In 2018, he left TMC and formed his own party named "Hamro Sikkim Party".
