Deepa was paralyzed at the age of 30 years under the waist. This terrible illness also did not reduce the Deepa's confidence. Deepa can turn every adverse condition according to her opportunities and success accordingly. A major turning point in his life came when he complained of tumor in the spinal cord in 1999.
It was that time when the Kargil war was advancing in the country. Deepa's husband Vikram was also involved in this war and was also fighting for the country. These times were tough for Deepa's family, while on the one hand, Deepa's husband Vikram Kargil was fighting the war, on the other side; Deepa was struggling with her tumor disease at home. But Deepa's family won both the wars. India won the Battle of Kargil and Deepa's three spinal tumor surgeries was successful. She is the first Indian athletic women who won the medal (silver) in the 2016 Paralympic Games under the sports event of "Shot-Put." In 2018 at the Dubai (para athletic grand Prix), she won the gold medal under the F-53/54 (Javelin) event. She holds the rating of No-1 under the category of F-53. At present, she is associated with H.M.A (Himalayan Motorsports Association) and F.M.S.C.I (Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India).
She has climbed to 18000 feet, including the 1700-km drive in the drastic conditions of (sub-zero) temperatures. During her journey, she had covered the dangerous and life-threatening paths such as remote part of Himalayas, Shimla, Jammu, and Leh. She is the wife of Colonel Bikram Singh and also the daughter of Colonel BK Nagpal. She is the mother of two young girls. She received the prize money of 40 million rupees by the Haryana Govt and the 50 lacs from the Ministry of Youth Sports for her outstanding achievement in paralympic by winning the Silver Medal. The GoSports Foundation is currently supporting Deepa under the Para-Champions Program.
