Dinkar D. Patil was born on 06-11-1915 in Benadi, Belgaum in the state of Karnataka, India. He was an Indian Film Director, Screenwriter, Dialog Writer & Film Producer who known for his work in Marathi Cinema.

Dinkar D. Patil was a famous name in Marathi film industry. He was a popular dialogue writer, scriptwriter, and film director with around sixty films in Marathi including 2 Hindi movies Gharbar and Mandir. He was born in 1915 in a Maratha Patil family. As a child, he had interests in Marathi plays, Marathi stage shows, and films. He attended Rajaram College where he studied Bachelor of Arts in Literature as a specialization at Kolhapur. His interest in writing involved him in " The Rajaramian", his college's magazine as an editor. He wrote for Kirloskar magazine as well.
 
His career in film started with as an assistant in Baburao Painter owned 'Maharashtra Film Company' at Kolhapur. Later he worked as an assistant director to his inspiration and his teacher during childhood 'Master Vinayak'. He understood the power of film medium for upholding the social issues. He wrote on rural life and social issues. He worked as a film director from 1950s to the 1990s and had been part of the Golden era of Marathi Film Industry. He was associated with Bhalji Pendharkar, Venkatesh Madgulukar, Suryakant Mandhare, Lata Mangeshkar, V. Shantaram during his tenure of the movie career. He had faced many ups and downs during the period of his life. He was even insolvent at one time but his hard efforts paid off and he was able to succeed and get out of the situation. He admired Bhalji Pendharkar in script writing and respected as a 'Guru'.
 
He had received many prestigious awards including Dadasaheb Phalke Award. Marathi Lavani folk dance was introduced by him in Marathi films.'Patlache Por' is his autobiography written by him. Marathi film 'Jay Malhar' based on rural theme's dialogue and the script was written by him. He had received many prestigious awards including Dadasaheb Phalke Award. Many documentary films were directed by him for the Maharashtra Government.
