Gopal Yonzon was one of the most renowned Nepalese Singers, better known for his Patriotic and movie songs. He was famous for his diversity as a singer and gave voice to lyrics of various categories and genres.
He started his career as a flutist and recorded his first musical composition in 1964. His work was encouraged by themes like romantic, spiritual, patriotic, womanhood, environment and so on. He also authored books such as Sangeetanjali-Music course Book for Intermediate College and Geet Manjari-Book & Tape for songs for children up to the age of 10.
The soulful artist was given several awards in his lifetime, some of them being: Best Musician in the category Flautist (Darjeeling) in the years 1962,1963 and 1964, Best Music Director (Darjeeling) in 1965, 1966 and 1967, Priya Award for 25 years dedicated outstanding contribution to Nepali Music in 1995.
He also has two Honors in his name; Order of Gorkha Dakshina Bahu III (1994) AND Coronation Medal of Nepal (1974). He got married to Renchin in 1968 and had three children.
Gopal Yonzon died on 20-05-1997 at the age of 53 in Delhi, India. He died because of complications, which came in between his treatment of Jaundice.
