Malgudi Subha was raised in Mumbai until the age of 13, after which her family relocated to Delhi. Her family spotted a special talent in her and immediately took her to Kimal G.B. Singh’s studio. She trained in music for few years before making her debut as a playback singer. She made her playback singing debut with the Tamil film Nadodi Thendral. This film’s music was composed the great composer Ilauraja. It was Rehman who was instrumental in making her rose from ranks to become a renowned singer. A.R. Rahman signed her to sing all songs from his debut album, Set Me Free. It was Rahman only who spotted her when she was doing jingles for him in the early 1990s. The album though initially went unnoticed but when it was re-released in 1996, it became widely popular and Subah’s vocal talent too went viral.

She and Rahman collaborated and released a Telugu album titled Chikpak Chikbhum. The album was a huge hit and over 1million units of the album were sold. In addition to private album and films, Subha has also sung some popular devotional songs. She has now completed over two decades in the industry and has recorded over 3000 songs in the films. She considers Usha Uthup as her icon and is a huge admirer of Kishore Kumar. In addition to South Indian languages song, she has also sung some Hindi songs as well.

She has also judged reality singing shows like Super singer Junior 2, Star Singer 2 and Idea Star Singer.
