Who doesn't know the big actor Morgan Freeman, whose voice once heard can give you goosebumps. He surely gave some stellar performances but what brought him under limelight was acting in soap operas like Another World and the PBS kids show "The Electric Company". 
 
He was born in Memphis, Tennessee. His father was a barber and mother a teacher. His childhood was tough. His family was not financially stable and then he was moved to his paternal grandmother's house in Mississippi. At the age of 16, he skipped death due to pneumonia. He went to Broad Street High School and performed his first play during that. He also won statewide drama competition but didn't take much interest in acting and went on to get admission in United States Air Force and getting promoted as Airman 1st class. He later took dance lessons at Pasadena Playhouse after 4 years of working in the military. He was constantly involved as a theatre artist and won 3 Obie awards for his performances. 
 
After gaining enough popularity from the TV shows, Freeman started playing supporting roles in various movies. As his acting skills started getting the expected garner he moved on to big roles out of which some are still remembered like Hoke in Driving Miss Daisy, Sergeant Major Rawlins in Glory and Red, the redeemed convict in Shawshank Redemption. That same year he was also marked as the jury member in the 44th Berlin International movie Festival. He gave voice for two films War of Worlds and the award winning documentary March of the Penguins. He also appeared as God in Bruce Almighty.
