Rituparno Ghosh had been suffering from diabetes mellitus type 2 for ten years, and pancreatitis for five years. On the other hand, he was suffering from insomnia and had been taking medication for it. After abdominoplasty and breast implants operations, he was also facing complications from hormone treatments.
He died at his residence Kolkata on 30-05-2013 due to a massive heart attack. He was found unconscious in bed by his attendants, Dileep and Bishnu. He was 49 years old. Before his cremation, he was given gun salute by Kolkata Police.
