Sandeep Dikshit was born in an affluent family. Her mother was the longest serving Chief Minister of Delhi and her father was an IPS officer. Following his father's footsteps, he too became an IPS officer. He started working with a social development group named Sanket. He was associated with a lot of humanitarian work in the states like Rajasthan, Punjab, Chattisgarh, and Madhya Pradesh among others.
During the decade of the 2000's, he started his involvement in politics and contested from East Delhi constituency and got elected as an MP for the first time durng the 2004 general elections. He defended his seat in the 2009 general elections as well. He failed to do so in the 2014 general elections and started making distance from the politics. He is currently serving as the adjunct faculty in the Jindal School of Government and Public Policy.
