Usha Uthup was born on 08-11-1947 in Mumbai in the state of Maharashtra, India. She is an Indian Playback Singer, Singer, Film Actress, Musician, Vocalist & Television Personality. She is best known for her work in Hindi, Malayalam cinema as well as Telugu, Tamil, English and Kannada films.

Her roots were from Chennai but she was born and brought up in Mumbai. She started her music career by singing in a Madras nightclub called Nine Gems. From there she went to Kolkata and from Kolkata to Delhi where she used to sing in Oberoi Hotels. At one such night, a film crew visited the hotel and they were so impressed by her singing that they gave her an opportunity to sing in a Bollywood film.
She made her singing debut through Bombay Talkies in the year 1970 in which she sang an English number and also Hare Rama Hare Krishna. Since then she never looked back and became the talk of the town with her unique voice. Throughout 1970s and 1980s, she sang a number of songs mostly for veteran music directors Bappi Lahri and RD Burman. In addition to Hindi, she has also sang in Malayalam and Telugu films as well. She has also performed in various concerts all across the globe and earned a niche for herself. She has fans from all quarters of the world and it's her unique way of singing that has helped her garnered a massive fan following.
She has also serve as the jusge of reality show Bharat Ki Shaan: Singing Star season 2 & 3. She judged the show alongside another veteran musician Ismail Darbar. She was also an invitee on a Marathi singing reality show and to entertain the audience, she also sang few Marathi songs as well. She is ofthen seen alongside Shah Rukh Khan during IPL matches in Kolkata cheering for KKR.
