Vinod Khanna was born on 06-10-1946 in Peshawar in the State of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. He is an Indian Film Actor, Film Producer, Television Actor, Voice Artist & Politician.

Vinod Khanna Complete Bio & Career

Vinod Khanna was born in a well to do business family. One day he watched Mughal-E-Azam on the silver screen and decided that one day he will be performing on silver screen. When he was finally chosen to play a negative role in the film Man Ka Meet in 1968, he didn’t even think twice before accepting that role. In the initial part of his career, he played negative roles in films such as Purab Aur Paschim, Sachaa Jhutha, and Mera Gaon Mera Desh. He was very successful with all these films but the filmmakers realized that he was too good an actor to be playing a villainous role. Thus, he started getting offers to play lead roles. 
 
It was Gulzar who cast him in his flicks such as Achanak and Mere Apne. Both these films were a huge hit and made him a star overnight. He acted with alongside legendary BiG B in several super hit films such as Muqaddar Ka Sikandar,  Amar Akbar Anthony, and Hera Pheri. Though he was already an established actor after working in triangular love story Qurbani, his popularity scaled highest of highs. 
 
After the 1990s, he decided to gave away his desire to play lead roles and was seen in supporting and character roles. In second innings of his career, his films such as Jurm, Chandini, Dayawaan, and Insaaf were some of his successful films. 
 
He made his foray into politics by joining BJP in 1997. He became an MP from Gurdaspur constituency of Punjab in 1998. He remained an MP till 2009. He lost in 2009 Lok Sabha elections but retained his constituency once again in 2014.  In his political career, he was handed portfolios such as Minister of State and Minister of Culture and Tourism.

  • Before he became popular for the cop roles, Khanna, who is known for his distinct style and persona, made quite an impression as a scowling dacoit in many flicks.
  • For Mera Gaon Mera Desh (1971), Dharmendra revealed, that Khanna literally bled to infuse realism into the role.
  • Khanna finally got the opportunity to expand his repertoire when Gulzar noticed his ability to meld brute force with emotional vulnerability and cast him in leading roles in Mere Apne (1972) and Achanak (1973).
  • He attempted risky, offbeat roles too. He broke the taboo about lovemaking in Aruna Vikas’ Shaque (1976), while his mature and complex performance as a murder suspect in the movie was lauded.
