The fabulous freedom fighter of Kerala, Accamma is popularly called as Jhansi Rani of Travancore. She got this title because of the dedication she had put during the mass rally which happened against the Diwan of Travancore in order to revoke a ban opposite to Travancore State Congress. Most prominently, she was the part of the freedom struggle during the period of the 1930s. Moreover, she was the member of Indian National Congress during her struggle as a freedom fighter. She is the wife of the popular politician V.V. Varkey Mannamplackal.
Initially, before entering into politics, she worked as a teacher for 6 long years. Later, she was promoted to the post of School Principal. After which, she resigned to this post and joined the Congress party to fight against the province of Travancore (State). She proved to be one among the major freedom fighters who raised their voice against C. P. Ramaswami Aiyar – Divan of Travancore. In the year 1938, the Congress party was banned by the divan. This led to the civil disobedience movement. Additionally, many of the prominent leaders which include Thanu Pillai.
During this situation, almost eleven dictators were arrested behind the bars. Subsequently, Accamma was the twelfth one to get elected. Later, she took a lead to rally around 20,000 people from Thampnoor to Kowdiar Palace. Ultimately, she was arrested for going against the law. After her release, she became the full-time worker of the Congress party.
