Short Biography

Ahmad Hasan Dani was born on 20-06-1920 in Mahasamund in the state of Chhattisgarh, India. He was a Pakistani Author, Archaeologist, Historian, Scientist & Scholar.

Ahmad Hasan Dani Complete Bio & Career

Ahmad Hasan Dani was the Pakistani historian, archaeologist, intellectual and linguistic. In 1944 he completed his MA from Banaras Hindu University. He became the first Muslim to graduate from there and also scored highest marks. Then he started as a trainee under Mortimeer Wheeler in archaeology. He also received Ph.D. in archaeology from Institute of Archaeology, University College in London.
After the partition, Dani migrated to Pakistan. There he worked as Assistant Superintendent of the Department of Archaeology. He then promoted to Superintendent-in-Charge of Archaeology. Later he became the General Secretary of the Asiatic Society of Pakistan. He was the President of National Committee for Museum in Pakistan. He then pursued to become the professor in the University of Peshawar as the Professor of Archaeology. He had published many books like History of Pakistan: Pakistan through ages, Historic City of History of Northern Areas of Pakistan, Human Records on Karakorum Highway, Tribes and Peoples of Northern Punjab and many more.He researched on rock carvings and inscription from the ancient times.
When Dani was in Dhaka University, he worked as a Research Fellow at School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London.  In 1974, he went as a visiting scholar at the University of Pennsylvania.  In 1991, he was made the Honorary Citizen of Bukhara. Dani in 1993 was also made the Honorary Life Patron of the Al-Shifa Trust in Rawalpindi. In 1969 he received the Sitara-e-Imtiaz. He also received Hilal-e-Imtiaz from Government of Pakistan in 2000. He was also awarded Legion d’honneur, Aristotle Silver Medal, Order of Merit from the Govt. of Germany, Knight Commander from the Govt. of Italy, PalmesAcademiques from the Govt. of France and Gold Medal from the Asiatic Society of Bangladesh.

Ahmad Hasan Dani died on 26-01-2009 in Islamabad, Pakistan. He was hospitalized at Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences as he was suffering from kidney, diabetes and heart problems.
