Amrita Pritam was born on 31-08-1919 in Gujranwala in the state of Punjab, Pakistan. He was an Indian Writer, Poet, Essayist, Editor, Novelist, Autobiographer & Author who was addressed as 1st Punjabi woman Poet.
At the age of 11 sudden demises of Amrita's mother, she relocated to Lahore along with her father, and she used to live till the time of partition in 1947. After her mother's death, she could not bear the loneliness and to overcome this situation she started writing at a very young age. In 1936 her very first collection of poems "Amrit Lehran" got published.
She married to Pritam Singh at the age of 16, after marriage, she changed her name from Amrita Kaur to Amrita Pritam. She wrote (Half, a dozen) collections of the poems, between 1936 to1943. In 1947 during the time of partition she left the Lahore and relocated to New Delhi at the age of 28. In 1948 she was traveling from (Dehradun) to (Delhi) she expressed her pain of partition in the form of writing and she wrote a poem (Ajj akhaan Waris Shah nu). Later in her life, this poem became the most sarcastic note of the fears of Partition. She worked in All India Radio (Delhi) under Punjabi Service till 1961. In 1960 when she got divorced her various poems and stories exhibited the "Unhappy face of her Marriage" and clearly indicating her agony of living separately. She wrote all her literacy work in Punjabi as well as in Urdu. All her work and also her autobiography "Black Rose and even Rasidi Ticket also got translated into another foreign language for her followers and readers of her work like (English, Danish, Japanese and French). Her book "Dharti Sagar te Sippiyan" filmed as (Kadambari) in 1965 and her another book "Unah Di Kahani" was also to be filmed as (Dacoit) in 1976.
Amrita's novel (Pinjar-1970) portrays the story of the partition of remonstrances (the plight of women) suffered during that time. Amrita ji later became the follower of Osho, and in the subsequent time wrote many introductory books on Osho, and other her research work on creating works like (Kaal Chetna), religious thoughts and dreams.
