The photographer Dennie Cody discovered her in a riding competition in Miami at the age of 13 and was signed one year later by the model agency Ford Models. She received her first orders from Emporium Capwell, a San Francisco shopping chain. She graduated and continued her modelling career from Monte Vista High School in Danville, California. 
 
In late 1986, She was photographed by Duran Duran behind the LP cover of the album Notorious. Her face came out on the front page of the Italian fashion magazine Vogue in 1987. In 1989, when she signed a contract with fashion designer Calvin Klein, she made a breakthrough as a supermodel. She began to promote the Eternity perfume. She signed a contract with the cosmetics company Maybelline in the same year. It was voted one of the 50 most beautiful people in 1993 by the People Magazine. She has appeared on the cover in over 1,000 magazines, including Vogue, Allure, and Elle, since 1987. In the animal rights organization, PETA Campaign launched in 1993, I would rather go naked than wear fur. The campaign was supported by Cindy Crawford and Turlington with nude photos. 
 
Fashion Café was founded in New York City in 1996 by Turlington and five other top models( Kate Moss, Claudia Schiffer, Cindy Crawford, Elle Macpherson, and Naomi Campbell). In the same year, a documentary called Catwalk on She's life was published.
She completed her studies in literature and philosophy in May 1999. A year later, she signed a contract for the Nuala yoga collection with the sportswear company Puma, and in late 2013, she was the modelling face of a luxury hotel group advertising campaign One & Only Resorts. In 2002, she published the first book called Living Yoga. She married the actor and director Edward Burns on 7 June 2003 with whom she had two children. Since October 2014, She has been an ambassador of the Apple Smartwatch.
