Harmer was only 5 years old when she was trained in stage and drama lessons. She soon got a scholarship at a very young age of 7 years and was admitted to the Redroots Theatre School. Her professional career began at the age of 6 years in a musical stage show ‘The Who’s Tommy’. Since then she made her presence in several TV and drama series. She has appeared in almost 15 TV series and some of her TV programs have been aired for 3-4 years continuously.

Harmer made her debut In the TV series ‘Pie in the sky’ in the year 1994. She has also appeared in shows like ‘Trial & Retribution’, ‘Beast’, ‘My Family’, ‘After You’ve Gone’, ‘Dani’s castle’ and the Tracy Beaker series which with she gained popularity. She also was one of the presenters in ‘The British Soap Awards’. She also recorded two singles ‘Free’ and ‘X-Boyfriend in the year 2008 and was signed by Universal Records for 3 million Euros. In the year 2012, she also participated in the reality dance show ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ and even made it to the finals.

Harmer has received several nominations and awards for her performances. She has been nominated many times for her role as Tracy Beaker. She is married to Simon Brough and the couple has one child from their marriage.
