David Alan Grier Complete Bio & Career

David Alan Grier is an Alma Mater of the University of Michigan and Yale School of Drama. He debuted with the Broadway musical titled ‘The First’. He received a nomination for ‘Best Featured Actor’ at Tony Awards and won the ‘Theater World Award’ for his role of Jackie Robinson in the musical. His next musical appearance was in ‘Dreamgirls’. His first film appearance was in the movie ‘Streamers’ for which he was awarded the Golden Lion at the 1983 Venice Film Festival. After portraying successful comedy roles in movies like ‘I’m gonna get you Sucka’ and ‘Amazon Women on the moon’, he appeared on the popular, super hit series ‘In Living Color’. He played several memorable characters like Tiny, Al MacAfee, Calhoun Tubes, Mr. Brooks, Lonnie Anderson, Candleopra, and Antonie Merriweather.
 
His other notable performances came in the movies ‘Boomerang’, ‘Dance Flick’, ‘Jumanji’, ‘Blankman’ and others. In 2012, his appearance in on Broadway’s ‘Porgy and Bess’ earned him Tony Awards and Grammy Awards nominations. Grier has also appeared in several other television shows including ‘Dancing With the Stars’, ‘The Adam Carolla Show’.
 
He was named among the ‘100 Greatest Stand-Ups’ by Comedy Central.
