Dinyar Contractor was born and raised in a Parsi family in Mumbai. He started his career by acting in Parsi stage plays and after that he started acting in Gujarati and Hindi language plays. He rose to prominence with a Gujarati show called Aavo Mari Saathe.
He came to limelinght for his performance in Akshay Kumar and Ayesha Jhulka starrer film Khiladi. Though he was in the film for a very brief moment but his hilarious comedy scene in which he was seen winking to Ayesha Jhulka became a memorable role. Since then, he acted in various Bollywood films as a comic character. He was seen in Bollywood films like Mujhse Shaadi Karogi, Baadshah, Baazigar, and 36 China Town among others.
He though became a household name through his performances in television series. He made his debut with the series called Teri Bhi Chup Meri Bhi Chup in the year 1995. After that, he appeared in various television shows but is most remembered for his role of Mr. Mehta in the famous television series called Khichdi.
