Holly Hunter Complete Bio & Career

Holly’s parents were very supportive and cheered her talent from an early age.  Her first stint with acting came in a fifth-grade play when she portrayed Helen Keller. She relocated to Pittsburgh to obtain a degree in drama from the noted Carnegie Mellon University in 1976. She graduated in 1980 and relocated to New York City, where she was fortunate to meet playwright Beth Henley. Hunter was seen in numerous Henley’s southern gothic plays which include The Miss Firecracker Contest and Crimes of the Heart. A couple of years later in 1982, she moved to Los Angeles. She finally landed on to her maiden starring role in the movie titled Raising Arizona in 1987. The very same year she rose to prominence after she portrayed the driven TV news producer Jane Craig in the James L. Brooks' Broadcast News in 1987. After some splendid performance, she finally won her maiden Academy Award and also worldwide acclaim for her power-packed performance as a mute bride to a New Zealand planter in the film titled The Piano in 1993.
 
She then continued to act in a variety of projects, including TV outings like Top of the Lake and When Billie Beat Bobby and animated fare like The Incredibles.

Hunter married cinematographer of Schindler's List in 1995. However, the marriage was short-lived and the couple broke-up in 2001.Hunter is in a serious relationship with ace actor Gordon MacDonald. The couple is blessed with a pair of twin boys.
