Hugo Sanchez Complete Bio & Career

Hugo Sánchez Márquez is a retired Mexican footballer and manager. He used to play forward and is still considered as one of the best footballer that Mexico has ever produced. He was a prolific goal scorer in his days and was best known for his spectacular volleys and strikes. He began his career by playing for UNAM (Club Universidad Nacional) in the year 1976. He played for them till 1981 and was briefly sent on loan to San Diego Sockers in 1979. He then plied his trade in Spanis football league and played for Atlético Madrid from 1981 to 1985. In 1985, he was moved to Real Madrid and played for them till 1992. He is the 7th highest goal scorer for Ream Madrid with 164 goals to his credit. He is also the 4th highest goal scorer in the history of La Liga and also the 3rd highest goal scoring foreign players after Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi. From 1992 to 1997 till he retired, he played for several clubs like Club America, Atlante, Linz and Celaya among others. 
 
He played for Mexico from 1977 to 1994 and was a part of 3 FIFA World Cup squads. He played 58 matches for them and scored 29 goals. He was on his own during the 1986 Fifa World Cup which was played in Mexico. Mexico reached the quarter finals of the World Cup for the first time and it were his heroics that helped Mexico reach that far. His goal scoring celebrations were unique then the others and was one of the first exponenet of backflip in football.
 
After finally retiring in 1997, he became the manage of UNAM but his stint didn't last long due to differences between club president and him. He was made the head coach od Mexico in 2007 but due to poor results during his term, he was forced to resign from his post in March 2008. 
 
He was ranked on the 26th position on the International Federation of Football History and Statistics' list of Best Footballers of the 20th Century. He holds the sixth position for the highest number of goals for Real Madrid. He bagged several awards and accolades in his career, including the European Golden Boot Award for the season 1989-90, Don Balon Award, Golden Foot Legends Award, Best Sportsperson of Mexico of the 20th Century.
