Kartar Singh Duggal was born on 01-03-1917 in Rawalpindi in the state of Punjab, Pakistan. He was an Indian Writer, Literary Critic, Playwright & Autobiographer.

Kartar Singh Duggal Complete Bio & Career

Kartar Singh Duggal was a leading writer from Punjab who has written in many languages like Urdu, Hindi, Punjabi and English. He has contributed immensely to the Indian literature by penning down 7 plays, 24 short stories, 10 novels, two poetry collections, seven work of literary criticism and an autobiography. His works have been translated into several other languages as well. For his contribution to the Indian literature, he was awarded Padma Bhushan along with many other awards. In his illustrious career, he has also served as the director of All India Radio. He has founded several prestigious institutes like Zakir Hussain Educational Foundation, Raja Ram Mohan Roy Library Foundation and Institute for Social and Economic Change in Bengaluru.

He obtained his M.A. degree in English Honours from Forman Christian College in Lahore. He started his professional career in 1942 by joining ALL India Radio. He worked at All India Radio for 24 long years till 1966 and held several important positions. Thereafter, he got associated with the National Book Trust from 1966 to 1973. He also served as an advisor to Planning Commission’s Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.

Some of his best short stories are Dangar, Birth of a Song, Come Back my Master and Sonar Bangla among several others. His well-known novels are Tere Bahane and Sarad Poonam Ki Raat. His poetry collections include Kandhe Kandhe and Veehveen Sadi te Hor Kavitaavaan.     

He was an avid traveler and has traveled to countries like North Korea, Bulgaria, Tunisia, the US and UK and Singapore among few others.
