She was inclined toward the Glamour industry from her childhood. She completed her Graduation in 1976 from Ingrid Jespersen’s School – where she admitted that She had an influence of a Danish Teacher, Writer and Critic Torben Brostrom. She wants to study more about films for that she spent about a year at Sorbonne. She afterwards studies the media industry till 1980 at University of Copenhagen and falls herself into Direction stream in 1981 at  The National Film School of Denmark. The National Film School of Denmark  Declared her a complete Graduate in 1984 after watching her Film Den onde Cirkel ( The Vicious Circle, 1984), considered to be the finest film in the History of the School, and let her pave the way for success. She onset her career as a Television series Director and mark her presence with her First Film Margrethes elsker (Margrethe’s Lover). 
 
Her debut Feature Film Kejas fodselsdag (The Birthday Trip)in 1991got a tremendous opening and She won Club Espace Award Rouen Nordic Film Festival, Grand Jury Prize Rouen Nordic Film Festival, followed by Nar mor kommer hjem (On Our Own), Italiensk for begyndere (Italian For Beginners)  in 2000. Her First English Feature Film was Wilbur Wants To Kill Himself (2002) which was nominated for 20 Awards and bagged 11 Awards. Her Second English language Feature Film  An Education in 2009 gave her the title of Best Director where the movie was Nominated for 56 Awards and acquired 25 Awards along with 3 Academy Awards of Best Picture, Best Actress and BestAdapted Screenplay and the List of Awards and Accolades in Endless.
