Dharampal Gulati spent his childhood in Pakistan. He attended a primary school there but due to partition his family had to migrate from Pakistan to India and he could not afford to continue his study. He spent a very miserable life during this time. Along with his family, he had to stay in refugee camps for a long time. 
 
When the conditions become normal, the family had to move all around in search of work and earn their livelihood. In 1950, they went to Delhi for searching for work. After a long struggle, in 1951 his father decided to open a spice shop in Karol bagh, Delhi. He also had a piece of good knowledge about the spices because he used to assist his father in his work in Pakistan. This knowledge brings him a huge success in life.
 
He expanded his business by opening another shop in Chandni Chowk. From here he keeps on expanding and growing his business and started his own manufacturing unit under the name ''Mahashian di Hatti'' known as MDH today. He was the founder and CEO of this company. His hard work and passion for his work recognized him as the highest-paid CEO of daily used goods in India.
 
Mahashay was very kind and soft-hearted and worked for humanity all his life. He used to spend his 90 percent salary as a charity. He runs a hospital in Delhi where affordable treatment is given to the needy people and operates a mobile hospital for slum and backward areas.
