Cowles began his journey from Malcolm-1966 in the James Purdy's (Comic Novel), he played the main lead at “Shubert Theatre" on “Broadway." In the year 1968, he appeared in the "The Indian Wants the Bronx"(an Israel Horovitz's play) at the "Astor Place Theatre" along with the co-stars (John Cazale and Al Pacino). He made his acting debut from the Fred Coe directed film "Me, Natalie" released in 1969, as Harvey Belman.
His Television career began with the longest running soap-opera aired from 1970 to 2013 for almost 41 years running on TOLN (The Online Network).In this opera, he played the character of Billy Clyde Tuggle which was most appreciated and loved by his audience. He earned the popularity from this long drama running on American channels. He was associated with the (The Mirror Theater Ltd's) in 1983 for performing in the theatrical presentation of "Rain, The Hasty Heart, Inheritors, and Paradise Lost."For the character of "Billy Clyde Tuggle' in the drama series of All My Children, he gained the nomination two times at the (Daytime Emmy) under the best actor category in 1978 and the best supporting actor category in 1981. This character was created and even was written by Cowles'.
He played the supporting role in the Shutter Island (a Martin Scorsese's film) in the year 2010.
