Megan Rapinoe is a professional footballer who is of American heritage. She is a midfielder for Seattle Reign FC which plays in the National Women’s Soccer League. She has helped the team win gold at the Olympics of 2012 held in London, as well as the 2011 FIFA Women’s World Cup. She grew up with five siblings and has a twin. She started to play soccer since she was young and was coached by her own father until she reached high school. In high school, she tried other sports like track and basketball. She also played for the Elk Grove Pride club team which is a soccer team. The team got second place at the national meet.
 
After high school, the soccer player went to the University of Portland which is located in Oregon. Her first year, the Portland Pilots had an undefeated season and won the NCAA Division I Women’s Soccer Championship. She was later selected in the 2009 WPS Draft to be on the Chicago Red Stars team playing in Women’s Professional Soccer. This is the top division of soccer in the year 2009. She got to be on the All-Star team and competed against the Swedish Damallsvenskan champions who were Umea IK. Later in the next year, she joined the Philadelphia Independence team. She played exceptionally well in the 2019 Women's Football World Cup.
 
Rapinoe does philanthropy work for GLSEN as well as for the United States Olympic Committee. She is also an ambassador for Athlete Ally. This is an organisation dealing with homophobia in the area of sports.
