The curly-haired, charming actor was raised in a middle-class family. His parents were employed in personnel but they shared with him a deep admiration for acting.He attended the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School instead of enrolling at the university. While he was in his second year, he won the much desired Laurence Olivier Bursary for giving outstanding performances on the consistent basis. While he was still studying, he was offered a pivotal role in Martin Sherman's "When She Danced" opposite stage legend Vanessa Redgrave in 1991.
Among the several roles that he portrayed, his most memorable role was "Romeo" in "Romeo and Juliet" and the title role in Yukio Ninagawa's Royal Shakespeare Company's staging of "Jimmy Porter" and "Peer Gynt" in 1994.
The actor got his maiden feature film role of Dr. Jekyll's footman in Mary Reilly in 1996, when he was cast along with Julia Roberts and John Malkovich. Arguably his most remarkable big screen role at that point was "Robert Ross", Oscar Wilde's former lover, in the biopic Wilde in 1997.
Even though he lightened up the London stage for almost a decade and even after starring in several films, Michael Sheen was not a known face in American audiences until his critically-acclaimed Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart This was officially Broadway revival of "Amadeus".
Sheen was in a serious relationship with English actress Kate Beckinsale from 1995 to 2003. Together they had a daughter named Lily Mo Beckinsale-Sheen. After breaking up with Beckinsale, Sheen was in a long-distance relationship with English ballet dancer Lorraine Stewart from 2004 to 2010. He then dated Canadian actress Rachel McAdams from 2010 to early 2013. Since 2014, he is in a relationship with American comedian Sarah Silverman.
