Petra Nemcova is a Czech model, television presenter, and Philanthropist. She was initially discovered in Prague by NEXT Model Management. She signed in to the deal with the management agency and moved to Milan to further pursue her modelling career. She has been associated with ad campaigns for various companies like Bulgari, Benetton, Playtex, Cortefiel, DirkBikkembergs, Graff, Max Factor, Passport, Victoria’s Secret, John Lewis, Intimissimi, and Rampage. She has featured on several magazine covers including Harper’s Bazaar, Lucianosoprani, CustoBarceloa, GugliemoCappone, Blunauta, YumiKatsura, and MichinoKoshino. She gained prominence outside the fashion industry when posed for the cover of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue in the year 2003. It was shot in Barbados by Walter loss. She has appeared on various other issues after the 2003 version.
Her television appearances include in Absolutely Fabulous, A Model Life, Live Earth, and Dancing with the Stars. She published an autobiography in 2005 which is called Love Always, Petra. She is multilingual and can speak Czech, Polish, English, Slovak, French, and Italian. Nemcova created the Happy Hearts Fund. It is a charitable organization and campaign which was formed after the tsunami of 2004. Nemcova was personally a victim of the 2004 Boxing Day tsunami. She survived by holding a palm tree for eight hours, after which she was rescued by Thai civilians and airlifted to a hospital which was nearby. Her work was recognized by the Prime Minister of Haiti, and she was designated as Ambassador-at-Large for Haiti.
