Raghavendra Gadagkar is the professor at Indian Institute of Sciences, Bangalore posted in the Centre of the Ecological Sciences. He radically studied the evolution of the social behavior with the help of the eusocial insects like Ropalidiamarginata a general wasp as a creature model. He served as President of the Indian National Science Academy for three consecutive years from 2014 to the year 2016.  Raghvendra has penned down about 275 scientific research papers and numerous articles in several international journals and Indian journals such as the Journal of Biosciences and the magazines like Current science and both of them were published in Bangalore. His one of the most pivotal contribution in the areas of the evolution of the eusociality is termed as a theory of the “assured fitness returns” which is being cross verified from the empirical values and it can be regarded as a crucial landmark after seminal work of W.D Hamilton, 1964.
 
In the last thirty years, he has framed an active research based group which has made a remarkable contribution towards the understanding of the ultimate and proximate factors of the social evolutions in the wasp. Survival Strategies were the maiden book penned down by him, which was also being translated into Korean and Chinese. It employs basic language to render the explanation of current advancements in the sociobiology and behavioral ecology to the audiences.
 
He has authored a technical book, namely the Social Biology of Ropalidiamarginata which combines his research and his efforts of 20 years in the evolution of eusociality. He is a holder of several academic positions. Moreover, Raghvendra is chairman of the CCS, Indian Institute of Sciences Bangalore. He is a respectable professor at JNCAR at IISC, Kolkata.
