Shekhar Kapur was born on 06-12-1945 in Lahore in the state of Punjab, Pakistan. He is an Indian Film Director, Film Producer & Film Actor who well known for his work in Bollywood.

Shekhar Kapur is a renowned filmmaker, producer, and director associated with Indian Film Industry. 
He became a Chartered Accountant at the age of 22 and worked for a Multinational oil company. He then moved to UK and continued his career as a management consultant and accountant. In his film career, he made his acting debut with the 1975 movie Jaan Hazir Hai. He went on to appear in several other films and television series. His first directorial venture was the 1983 movie Masoom. It starred Shabana Azmi and Naseeruddin Shah, which went on to become a cult hit. He directed Anil Kapoor’s popular movie Mr.India, which also starred Sridevi and Amrish Puri. His 1994 venture, Bandit Queen based on the biography of Phoolan Devi was critically acclaimed and brought him international recognition. He gained further recognition when he directed the period film British Queen Elizabeth I, which won the Academy Award. 
He has rendered voice of Mahatma Gandhi in the audiobooks titled The Story of My Experiments with Truth. He was the narrator on the ABP News television show Pradhanmantri. He also served as one of the judges on the television reality show India’s Got Talent. He was a jury member at the 2010 Cannes Film Festival. He has been honoured with the Padma Shri award by the Government of India. He has also won the prestigious BAFTA Award for the direction of Elizabeth in 1998.
