Spike Lee was born on 20-03-1957 in Atlanta in the state of Georgia, United States. He is an American Film Director, Film Producer, Screenwriter, Film Actor, Professor, Documentary Filmmaker, Television Producer & Music Video Director.
Spike Lee Complete Bio & Career
Lee started making non-professional films by the age of 20. He made his first student film titled Last Hustle in Brooklyn, while he was still an undergraduate at Morehouse College. Lee graduated from the prestigious New York University Film School in the year 1982. He also made a graduate thesis film and won a student award for that.
Lee became a promised director with his maiden feature film titled She's Gotta Have It, in the year 1986. The complete shooting of the film was concluded in just two weeks and it cost around 175,000 USD to make that film but it grossed over $7 million at the box- office and in the process made it among the most profitable films released in the year 1986.
He was definitely not somebody who was new to controversy for obvious infuriating elements in both public statements and his films; Lee mostly takes a critical look at political issues, urban crime, race relations, and violence in his films. His film, Do the Right Thing released in 1989 inspected all of the above-mentioned things and was nominated for an Academy Award under the category of Best Original Screenplay.
Lee produced and directed a four-hour documentary for television titled When the Levees Broke: A Requiem in Four Acts. This documentary was based on the life after the aftermath of dreadful Hurricane Katrina that strikes New Orleans.
In addition to films, Lee has enjoyed a huge success in directing commercials. Most notable among them was Nike's Air Jordan’s ad featuring the legendary Michael Jordan. Other notable commercial clients include Taco Bell, Converse, and Ben & Jerry's.
He also owns his own production company named 40 Acres & A Mule Filmworks.
