Stephan Kareem El Shaarawy is a young Italian footballer who currently plays for in the CSL (Chinese Super League) club Shanghai Shenhua. He began his youth career at Begino while he was just 9 years old. He stayed with them till 2006 and then transferred to Italian football club Genoa in 2006. In 2008, he got transferred to Genoa's main roster and played for them till 2011. In 2010, he was loaned to Italian football club Padova. He came to limelight after he started playing for A.C. Milan in 2011. While playing for them, he was briefly loaned to Monaco and Roma and played 1 seasons for each of the club. In 2016, he signed permanently for Roma and played for them from 2016 to 2019. In 2019, he inked a deal with Chinese Super League club named Shanghai Greenland Shenhua.
 
He was eleigible to play for Egypt and Venezuela. He, however chose to represent Italy and played for them for all age group starting from Italy U-16 team. In 2012, he made his international debut playing for Italy. He suffered an injury during 2013-14 season and hence was denied a berth for the 2014 FIFA World Cup. He though made sure that he plan his season well and was in the 23 man squad list of Italy for the 2018 FIFA World Cup held in Russia. Italy though had a lean run at the World Cup but he has continued to be in Italy's national side scheme of things. He plays left winger for Italy and sometimes as an attacking midfielder as well. He has demonstarated his goal scoring abilities from outside the box and that makes him one of the most feared players. The only problem is that he has struggled with injuries a lot otherwise he has often drawn comparisions with the best in the business like Ronaldo, Messi, and Neymar.

  • In his debut season at Genoa, he only made a single appearance which also came from the bench. However, he was selected in the matchday squad on numerous occasions.
  • The scouts and club management of AC Milan took note of his precocious talent and decided to pay €20 million transfer fee (€10M plus Alexander Merkel) to Genoa in June 2011 to buy El Shaarawy.
  • In October 2012, he scored his first UEFA Champions League goal in AC Milan‘s match against Zenit. He also became the youngest AC Milan player to score in the prestigious European competition.
