Tin Tan’s actual name is Germán Genaro Cipriano Gómez Valdés de Castillo. It was one of his friend who advised him to change his screen name to Tin Tan. He becoming an actor was surprise to many. He was a sweeper or the XEJ station in Ciudad Juarez, when he decided to try and mimic the radio announcers for fun. His funny personality was highly appreciated by the audience and he was promoted to the main radio announcer. During this time, he got noticed by Paco Miller who approached him to work in films.
 
He began his film career through the film titled Summer Hotel in the year 1944. Soon, he became one of the most sought after actor of Mexican film industry and his film Calabacitas tiernas was chosen as the best Mexican film in the year 1948. In a career that spanned for 30 years, he appeared in over 100 films and most of them had a great run at the box-office. He was last seen in American musical drama film Charlotte's Web in the year 1973.
 
Behind the camera, he was closely associated with a lot of his co-stars and was considered as a bad boy of his time. He was arguably the biggest legend of the Mexican film industry and to honour his contribution a Mural of Tin Tan was made at the Multiforo Cultural Alicia. Even Google honoured him with a Doodle on his 104th birth anniversary in European countries like Sweden, Italy, Iceland and Central America.
