Utpal Dutt was born on 29-03-1929 in Barisal, Bangladesh. He is an Indian Film Actor, Film Director, Playwright, Theatre Actor, Theatre Director & Comedian who known for his work in Bengali and Hindi films.

Utpal Dutt Complete Bio & Career

Utpal Dutt was arguably one of the complete theatre personalities that we have in India. He started his stint with theatre, while, he was still a teenager. He was associated with both English and Bengali theatres. He founded English Theatre named 'The Shakespeareans', in 1947. The successes of his theatre resulted in that he had to tour the whole of Pakistan and India and perform on Shakespeare dramas. While he was performing in one such drama of Shakespeare, filmmaker Madhu Bose spotted him and offered him a lead role in his film Michael Madhusudhan in 1950 and that is how his splendid journey in Bengali cinema started. He was an equally popular figure in Hindi cinema as well and was the first choice of noted Bengali directors like Ritwik Ghatak, Mrinal Sen and Satyajit Ray.
 
After establishing himself as a serious actor, he turned to comedy in Hindi films and made the audiences die laughing. His most noted comic roles include in films such as Rang Birangi, Gol Maal, and Naram Garam. He won the Filmfare Best Comedian Award for all these films. He also did a few villainous roles in films such as Inquilab and The Great Gambler.
 
He has contributed equally to both the film industries Bengali and Hindi. His role as Bhawani Shankar in the classic comedy film Golmaal was arguably the best role that he played in his entire film career. He was active in the industry for over for decades and has acted in over 100 films. For his performance in the Bengali film Bhuvam Shome, he earned Nation Award for Best Actor in 1970.

Utpal Dutt died on 19-08-1993 in Kolkata, West Bengal, India. He underwent dialysis in S.S.K.M hospital. He suddenly felt pain in chest and suffered a heart attack.
