Volodymyr's father worked there. A mathematician by education, who later became a professor at the Department of Cybernetics and Computer Engineering, in a distant Asian country, he participated in the construction of mining and processing plants. His mom was engaged in engineering technology.
Volodymyr went to a Mongolian school at the age of 8, in accordance with the laws of the country. The boy spoke fluent Mongolian, but after returning to Kryvyi Rih, without having practice, he quickly forgot the language. In Ukraine, Volodymyr began to attend a theater group and was engaged in sports. He was a restless and active child. In early childhood, Zelensky wanted to become a border guard, and later he dreamed of learning to be a diplomat or a translator.
Volodymyr Zelensky entered the Kiev University of Economics. He decided to go for a legal specialty. The creative abilities and sense of humor of the student were immediately noticed: Volodymyr was invited to put on dance performances in the
KVN “Zaporizhia-Kryvyi Rih-Transit” team. After some time, Zelensky himself began to participate in KVN.
In 1997, Volodymyr Zelensky, together with several members of the KVN team, created his own team, and they called it “Kvartal 95.” He not only acted as a team captain but also wrote scripts the show. After 2 years, the Higher League of KVN came calling for the team. Each performance was highly appreciated by the jury; the guys gained popularity among fans of the famous game and began to give concerts throughout the ex-Soviet countries.
In addition to concert and touring activities, Volodymyr Zelensky took up writing scripts for corporate events and concerts. The participation of "Kvartal 95" in KVN lasted until 2003, but after a conflict with the company “AMiK,” Zelensky and his team ceased to participate in the project.
Ukrainian channels became interested in "Kvartal 95." The 1+1 channel offered the talented guys to have their own program which would include their best KVN performances. So KVN team was transformed into "Kvartal 95 Studio,” the head and owner of which was Volodymyr Zelensky.
According to the information published by Forbes, Zelensky’s studio earned around $2 million dollars in profit in 2012. The same year, the entire “Kvartal 95” team hit the 2nd place in the rating of the 25 wealthiest media projects and stars of show business in Ukraine. The artists lost the first place only to Volodymyr Klitschko. “Kvartal 95” became the most popular TV act in the country.
On December 31, 2018, Zelensky officially announced that he would run for president. His speech on TV took place on the very eve of the new year. Very quickly, Volodymyr was the leader of the election race. At the end of January, a number of sociological companies stated that Volodymyr had approximately 21% of winning the election, being ahead of Petro Poroshenko and Yulia Tymoshenko by 5-6%.
On March 31, 2019, Volodymyr Zelensky, who received 30.24% of the votes, and Petro Poroshenko, who received 15.95%, went for the second round, leaving their competitors behind.
On April 21, the second round of the presidential elections in Ukraine took place, in which Volodymyr Zelensky won. He got 73% of the votes. Petro Poroshenko admitted his defeat and offered the new head of state his assistance which Zelensky refused.
