Yao Ming Complete Bio & Career

Yao Ming is a former professional basketball player from China. He was also one of the tallest active players in the National Basketball Association during his career. He represented Shanghai Sharks in the Chinese Basketball Association and Houston Rockets in the NBA. 
 
He started off his basketball career as a teenager for the Shanghai Sharks. He continued playing for the senior team for five years and also bagged the CBA championship. He was picked by the Houston Rockets in the NBA draft in 2002. In the beginning of his NBA career, his performance was very promising and all the talks regarding his failure in the NBA fell off. In the following season, he was voted as the ‘Sporting News’ Rookie of the Year and was awarded the Laureus Newcomer of the Year Award. He was also picked to the NBA All-Rookie First Team unanimously. After missing over 250 games in his last six seasons, he announced his retirement in July 2011. He is the eight times NBA All-Star. Yao was picked into the All-NBA Team for five times.
 
He was the part of Chinese Basketball team which bagged consecutive gold medals at the FIBA  Asia Championship in 2001, 2003 and 2005. As one of the most celebrated athletes from China, he co-wrote his autobiography ‘Yao: A Life in Two Worlds’ with Ric Bucher. He was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2016. A documentary film titled, ‘The Year of the Yao’ was made based on his Rookie year in the NBA.
