Debjani Chatterjee Complete Bio & Career

Debjani Chatterjee, born in Delhi, is a 65 years old poet. Before becoming a full-time writer in the year 1997, she had studied Literature and Religion at Cairo University, Canterbury University, and Lancaster University. She completed her Ph.D. and went on to do various experienced jobs in community relations, education, industry, and the voluntary sector.

She has resided in various cities and countries around the world, which had an impact on her writings. She was able to generate poems on diverse culture. Till now, she has penned down, translated and edited books exceeding the number sixty. Her debut book was I Was That Woman in 1989. She has bagged numerous prizes such as Peterloo Poets Prize. Moreover, a book by her named The Elephant-Headed God and Other Hindu Tales was nominated for Children's Books of the Year in 1990.
 
She is an ambitious writer but was diagnosed with cancer. She set up a support platform for cancer survivors and carers, named it The Healing World.  She finds solace in art therapies, storytelling, and writings. She has been published in the Hong Kong Sunday newspaper and Bharat Ratna magazine.
 
She became the chairperson of theNational Association of Writers in Education, which shows her dedicated passion towards education. She was appointed Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in the year 2008. She supports mental health charities such as Hyphen 21 and Survivor’s Party and writes for wellbeing. She also had an interest in community writing, which promoted her write various bilingual books.
 
She was a Torchbearer at Olympics 2012. She is an inspiring and a strong human being. Her parents always wanted to convince her to make writing a hobby and not profession. Recently, she has launched her latest book Do You Hear the Storm-Sing? under winter edition of the Core Publications in the year 2014.
