Dipak Misra Complete Bio & Career

Dipak Mishra began his professional career as an advocate in the year 1977. He started off as a High Court of Orissa lawyer and representing his clients in Criminal, Civil, Constitutional, and Service Tax cases among many others. After serving as a lawyer for 19 years, he was finally promoted as an Additional Judge of the decorated Orissa High Court in the year 1996. A year later, he was made the permanent judge of the Madhya Pradesh High Court.
 
After serving for 12 years as a permanent judge of the Madhya Pradesh High Court, he was named the Chief Justice of Patna High Court in 2009. A year later, he was named the Chief Justice of Delhi High Court. He was then promoted as the judge of the Supreme Court in 2011. As a judge of the apex Indian Court, he is well known for some of his verdicts like the Yakub Menon’s judgment. Though he was given death threats by various terrorist organizations, he decided not to bow down and went ahead with the verdict. That verdict will always be remembered as landmark judgments of his career as a Supreme Court Judge. There were several other cases in which he gave bold judgments. In his career, he passed verdict on 5000 pending cases which were a huge boost in clearing the pending cases. It was he who played a key role in making Lok Adalat’s more effective and settling Mediation Centre.
 
After an illustrious career thus far, the only post that was left for him was to be the Chief Justice of India. It was the previous chief justice of India, Jagdish Singh Khehar who recommended his name and thus he was named the 45th Chief Justice of India on 28th August 2017. His tenure is expected to continue for the next 14 months till October 2018. In early 2018, he was criticized by 4 judges over the judgment he passed on sensitive cases like Yakub Menon and others.
