Dola Banerjee was born on 02-06-1980 in Baranagar, Kolkata in the state of West Bengal, India. She is an Indian Archer.

Dola Banerjee Complete Bio & Career

Dola Banerjee is the first Indian sportswoman to have won the World Archery Championship. She is one of the most talented and promising archers in the country and has proved her mettle in various international championships, including Olympics.
 
Studying at the Baranagar Rajkumari Girls High Scool, she discovered that she was interested in archery. Soon after, her parents, Ashok Banerjee and Kalpana Banerjee, realized her interest in sports and admitted her into the Baranagar Archery Club at a young age of nine years.
 
After years of training and participating in state and national level archery competitions, she became a noticeable sportswoman and was sent to the Youth World Championship in San Diego in 1996. Thereafter, she was in the team representing India at the Summer Olympics, 2004. However, she did not falter even when she was placed 13th here and proved her mettle by winning the second and third gold medals of her career in 2007 in the women’s individual recurve competition at the Meteksan world Cup in Dover, England, and the World Cup Final held in Dubai in the same year, respectively . This way she became the world champion of archery in 2007.
 
Dola competed in the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics in both the individual and team events, however, she couldn’t reach the finals in both. Yet, she refused to give up and compensated for the loss in the 2010 Delhi Commonwealth Games, where she teamed up with Deepika Kumari and L Bombayala Devi and won the Gold medal in Women’s Team Recurve competition, besides winning a Bronze in the individual event.

In 2005, the government of India conferred her with the Arjuna Award for her outstanding dedication and achievement in the world of archery, making her the second woman archer to receive this title.
