Gunjan Saxena Complete Bio & Career
Gunjan Saxena was born in a family of soldier and hence she too decided to join the defense forces. While pursuing graduation from Hans Raj College in Delhi, she also joined Safdarjang Flying School so that she can learn the basics of flying. To join India Air Force, she cleared the SSB exams and joined the first batch of women in the Indian Air Force in 1994. She also got selected to train as a pilot at IAF.
She got posted in Uddhampur, J&K. She was waiting for her opportunity to serve the country along with her associate Vidya Rajan. After the 1999 Kargil war broke out, she became a part of Operation Vijay. During the war, she got the opportunity to fly a cheetah helicopter in the warzone. She rescued various injured soldiers. She was constantly attacked by Pakistan through rocket launchers and bullets but she narrowly escaped.
Through this, she proved what women are capable of and after her successful stint it has paved the way for various other women to become a pilot in Indian Air Force. A biopic titled Gunjan Saxena - The Kargil Girl will be released in 2020 and actress Jhanvi Kapoor will portray her role on screen.
