Pratima Puhan was born on 27th August 1991 in Cuttack, Odisha, India. She is an ace Indian Rower who has represented India in Commonwealth and Asian Games. She shot to fame after winning a bronze medal in 2010 Asian Games held in Guangzhou, China.

She hails from the state of Odisha and is a product of Sai Watersports Centre in Cuttack. Her coach is Jose Jacob.  She held on to a sport which was supposedly not considered for women in India. But she created history and her achievement made many young girls of Odhisa consider Rowing as a serious sport.
 
Pratima Puhan wrote Rowing history for India by becoming the maiden woman to win a medal in this sport at the prestigious Asian Games. She along with Pramila Prabha Minz clinched the third position in the coxless pair event. For her achievement, she was lauded by the whole nation and was awarded Biju Patnaik Sportsperson of the Year Award for Odhisa for her achievement at Asian Games. 
 
Apart from several awards and medals that she has won, she has also been appointed as the Sub-Inspector of Police in Bhubaneshwar UPD in 2015.
