Raj Babbar was born on 23-06-1952 in Tundla in the state of Uttar Pradesh, India. He is an Indian Film Actor, Politician & Television Actor who is known for his work in Hindi, Punjabi and Bengali films. He belongs to the Indian National Congress (INC) party.

Raj Babbar Complete Bio & Career

Raj Babbar is a veteran actor of Punjabi and Bollywood movies. He is in the showbiz industry from the late 1970s. He has played the lead actor’s role, supporting actor’s role and lead antagonist role as well.
 
He trained in acting from the famous NSD (National School of Drama) in Agra. He then attended the workshops at the Method School of acting prior to joining the film industry. He made his cinematic debut with the comedy film titled “Kissa Kursi Ka” in the year 1977. He was cast opposite Shabana Azmi in this film. Unfortunately for him, the movie was not passed by the censor board and all the blueprints of the film were also burnt because it showed politicians in the wrong way. Three years later, he worked in the film titled Asha and thus Asha can be called as his debut film. He became an established actor after working in the much-acclaimed film titled “Insaaf Ki Tarazu” in the year 1980. He became one of the most sought after actors in the decade of 1980s because of his versatility of taking any roles. He did both, commercial as well as off-beat films. His performance in the film Nikah and Waaris needs a special mention.
 
Since the late 1990s, he started playing lead actor’s father’s role in movies such as Barsaat, Gupt, and Bodyguard among others.  In addition to Hindi, he has been one of the biggest stars of Punjabi cinema as well. His hit Punjabi films include Long Da Lashkara, Chann Pardesi, and Aasra Pyaar Ka among several others.
 
Raj Babbar made his foray into politics in the year 1989 after joining the political front Janata Dal. From Janata Dal, he then joined Samajwadi Party and has been elected as an MP thrice from the year 1994 to 1999. He has also completed his term at Rajya Sabha and in 2004 general elections; he was again elected as an MP. After some rift with the big boss of the Samajwadi Party, he joined the Indian National Congress and in 2009 general elections, he defeated Samajwadi Party’s candidate and Akhilesh Yadav’s wife Dimple Yadav and became MP for the fourth time. He though lost in the 2014 general elections. 
 
In his illustrious political career, he was severely criticized for making anti-poor remarks that in India one can have a full one time at just 12Rs for which he has to ask for a public apology as well. While campaigning for the 2014 general elections, he compared BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi to Adolf Hitler.

He was born to Kushal Kumar Babbar and Shobha Babbar. He was first married to Nadira Zaheer in 1975 and together the couple is blessed with a son named Arya Babbar and a daughter named Juhi Babbar. He then married Smita Patil and with whom he has a son named Prateik Babbar. After the death of Smita Patil, he went back to his former wife Nadira Zaheer.
