Ray Reardon, MBE is a famous former snooker player. He is one of the best players from the 20th century. He wanted to play snooker form his childhood. He went to Grammar School to be a miner at Ty Trist Colliery, following his father’s footsteps. He quit mining job when he was buried for 3 hours after a rockfall. He then became a police officer. He defeated Jack Cowey in the British youth championship. He was 15 years old that time. He defeated John Spencer, winning the English Amateur title in 1964 event. He then had a successful South Africa tour. Then he resigned his police job to perceive his professional career in the sports.
 
He appeared for the first time for the World Championship in 1969.He won his first World Championship title next year, defeating John Pulman in London. He was in demand for holiday camp circuit and exhibitions. He got recognized with a win at Pot Black in 1969.He was not just a player. He had his own entertainment factor. He used to add a pinch of entertainment and humor to the game. He had played 17 World Championship matches without any defeat. Snooker Scene editor, Clive Everton had suggested his name as a candidate for Ladbroke International Series. His continuous winning sequence of World Championship came to end when he lost against John Spencer in 1977 World Championship. He regained his status in next championship. He is the oldest winner and had won his last World championship when he was 45 years and 6 months old.
 
He again was ranked at number one position in the world rankings, as those used to be based on prior World Championships titles. He won the Players Professional Tournament in 1982, defeating Jimmy White. He won the Yamaha Organs International Masters against Steve Davis but lost to Cliff Thorburn in the final of the final of the Benson & Hedges Masters. He again won Welsh Professional Title. He was awarded the MBE in 1985.He suffered from eyesight problems later in his life and started wearing glasses. He took retirement from the game. He still carries active interest in the game and has advised Ronnie O'Sullivan and provided him technical and psychological help for 2004 World Championship. He serves as president of the golf club in Churston.
