Ricky Ponting is arguably the best player that Australia has ever produced and the world has ever seen. He is the only player who has been a part of three world cup win out of which he was a captain in two of those world cups. It was during his captaincy that Australian cricket scaled new highs and was arguably invincible.
His arrogance on the field though drew a lot of criticism. However, in his 17 years of cricketing career, he enjoyed success which not many have enjoyed. He is not just the highest run-getter for Australia in Tests and ODIs but also the captain who has the maximum number of wins under his belt. His cover drive and pull-short were a treat to watch and his inning of 140 against India in 2003 ICC Cricket World Cup final remained the highlight of his career. He scored over 13000 runs in both the formats. The only dark shade in his career was that he became the only Australian captain who led his side to three Ashes defeats. Otherwise, his career had more silver linings than rough patches. He to date is the only player who has been a part of 100 wins in Test matches. After a poor show at 2011, World Cup and a poor home series against the touring South Africans made him hang his boots. After retirement though he kept playing in the Big Bash League and IPL. After retiring completely, he served as the coach of IPL team Mumbai Indians for two years. He is currently seen commentating. He released his autobiography titled ‘At the Close of Play’ in 2013 and drew a lot of criticism.
