Rudolf Weigl was born on 02-09-1883 in Prerov, Olomouc, Czech Republic. He was a Polish Biologist, Physician, Researcher, Inventor, Scientist, Parasitologist & Founder of Weigl Institute (now called "Lviv Centre of Institute for Space Research"). He made the first effective vaccine in 1930 against epidemic (louse-borne) typhus.

Rudolf Weigl Complete Bio & Career

Rudolf Stefan Weigl was a great Polish biologist, physician, and inventor born in the Austro-Hungarian town of Przeroin in 1883. He is a native german speaker. He moved to Poland and learn language and culture later after his father's death. He studied biological sciences at Poland’s Lwow University.  He also worked as a Parasitologist in the Polish Army in 1914.

He is well known for his discovery of the first developed vaccine against epidemic Typhus an infectious disease. Later he researched how to use lice to propagate deadly bacteria. He had been studying for about 10 years. He then developed a vaccine for the same in 1936. In 1946, he was nominated for two Nobel Prize nominations but did not receive one.

The polisher made a big contribution to the development of society, during Holocaust. Despite he saved the lives of Jewish men and women. He provided them shelter to live. In,2003, the biologist was honored as Righteous Among the Nations. He founded the Weigl Institute in Lwów.

 He enforced opening a vaccine production plant during the outbreak of World War 2. He saved about 5000 people by this vaccine and made direct efforts to protect his neighbors by distributing thousands of vaccine doses nationwide. He died in the Polish mountain resort of Zakopane in 1957. The google doodle is going to celebrate his138th birthday as a Polish biologist.
