Amit Bose Complete Bio & Career

He is a well-known editor and filmmaker of several classical Bollywood films during the 1960s. The cult classic hit film Abhilasha was among the most remarkable work of Amit Bose.
 
As an editor, he was known for his films such as Madhumati, Sujata, Parakh, Usne Kaha Tha, Kabooliwala and Prem Patra among others. For the major part of his career, he has served as an editor to legendary filmmaker Bimal Roy. He did editing of the film titled ‘Shakespeare Wallah’ which was directed by noted Indian director Satyajit Ray.
 
He started his film career in Kolkata in 1946. Subsequently, he shifted to Mumbai and there he started working as an assistant to Phani Majumdar at Bombay Talkies. He also made a brief appearance in Phani’s movie titled Tamasha. He went overseas to study filmmaking in 1952. He completed his apprenticeship at A B Pathe and Pinewoods Studios in England. Thereafter, he did diploma in film direction, film editing and screenplay writing at Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia in Rome, Italy. He got married in 1957 and after which, he joined hands with filmmaker Bimal Roy as his major Film Editor.

He was born to Meera Devi, who was a famous Bengali film actress. His biological father and her mother divorced when he was very young and his mother then married famous Bollywood actor and singer Pahari Sanyal who adopted him. Rabindranath Tagore was his maternal uncle.
 
He married Monica Bose in 1957 and together the couple is blessed with two daughters Papri-Tara Bose, Roma Bose.
