Amitava Kumar Complete Bio & Career

Amitava Kumar is a great Indian writer and journalist who also happens to be a professor of English at the Vassar College. He has studied at Delhi University, Syracuse University and from the University of Minnesota. H spent his formative years in Patna, Bihar where he obtained his bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Hindu College. Currently, he is residing in New York with his wife and daughter.
 
This award winning writer has authored many books like the Husband of a Fanatic, Bombay-London-New York, Passport Photos, No tears for the N.R. I., Home Products and Nobody does the Right Thing. A ‘Foreigner Carrying in the Crook of His Arm a Tiny Bomb: A Writer’s Report’ was his prize-winning book which got praised by the critics. This book was also awarded as the best Non-Fiction book of the Year Award at the Asian American Literary Awards.
 
His book, ‘Husband of a Fanatic’ got the ‘Editor’s Choice’ nominee at the New York Times. His other book, ‘Passport Photos’ won the ‘Outstanding Book of the Year’ award in New York. Kumar has also scripted documentary films-Dirty Laundry and Pure Chutney. He regularly authors articles for newspapers and magazines. In 2011, he had also interviewed famous India novelist Arundhati Roy for Guernica Magazine.
 
Recently, he had been awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship in the year 2016.  He has also received various other awards like the Lannan Foundation Marfa Residency, a Barach Fellowship, and many such others.
 
He efficiently divides his time between teaching, writing, and living. He has married a Muslim from Pakistan. He leads a humble life wherein he commutes every day via the Metro North Train from college to home. Life comes a full circle for him as he continues to write, teach and observe the world around him in America.
