Anant Nagarkatte belongs to Konkan family and grew up with his elder sister Shyamala and Younger Brother Shankar. Anant completed his primary education from Ananda Ashrama & Chitrapur Math situated in Uttara Kannada District. For his higher studies, Anant went to Mumbai. It was during that period he got inclined towards theatre, acts, and started doing plays in regional languages.
 
Anant prefers his screen name to be Anant Nag. After doing some plays, he got noticed and received two film offers, his debut Kannada film Sankalpa and Hindi Movie Ankur in the year 1973. But Anant rose to fame with Kannada Film Hamsageethe released in 1975. A very natural actor who have artistic characteristics hardly have seen any major flops in his entire career. He was also referred to be an actor with no failure by many. Anant Nag paired with actress Lakshmi for around 25 films and their pair is still considered among the best in Kannada Film Industry.
