Hyeon Chung began playing tennis at age six with the help of his father and older brother, both tennis players, in hopes of maintaining his eyesight after having to get glasses. He won the Junior Orange Bowl Boy’s 12 and Under title in December 2008, which, soon after, led to him being signed to the Nick Bollettieri Tennis Academy. After losing in the finals of Wimbledon Juniors in 2013, he began to focus on his professional tennis career. In 2014, he won two matches for the South Korea Davis Cup team and also won gold in doubles at the 2014 Asian Games. In 2015, he entered the top 100 for the first time.
In 2015, received ATP Most Improved Player of the Year Award (voted by players). After suffering an injury in 2016, he came back strongly. After a good 2017 season, he created a lot of headlines after he broke into semis of Australian Open 2018. On his way, he defeated his childhood hero Novak Djokovic as well. He is just 21 years old and will be up against Roger Federer in the semis. The odds are against him but can surprise even the best of best on his day.
